In his return
of call, Tom Hanson, the Coldwell Banker realtor who had indeed sold the Fink
family home back in Kenmore, New York, reported proceeds from that sale were
transferred electronically to the account of Stuyvesant “Wolffmüller”, a seeming irregularity, but one prearranged while the Finks’
sole heir was in town for his mother’s funeral. Beyond this memory-jostling
titbit, Mr. Hanson had nothing more to contribute (aside from the name of
Stuyvesant’s bank where the account—Dad checked—had long since been closed).
Tracks by Mr. Whatever-His-Surname-Is-Now had once more been obliterated, the
activities of Bio-Waste Anonymous perhaps suggesting why:

MATERIAL ISSUED CONCURRENTLY. AN INVENTORY OF BIG-TICKET EQUIPMENT SUGGESTS THE
VENTURE WAS FUNDED BY VERY DEEP POCKETS (JULIANA’S, I PRESUME, BEFORE HER
PERSONAL FORTUNE PETERED OUT). THE COMPANY, UNDER A SET OF STRINGENT GUIDELINES,
WAS AUTHORIZED TO ELIMINATE (I.E. EUTHANIZE) GENETIC-INDUSTRY WASTE. RESEARCH
FACILITIES (PRIVATE AND PUBLIC, RENOWN AND OBSCURE) WERE LISTED ON A BACKLOG OF
CUSTOMERS SUBMITTED WHEN BWA,
EIGHTEEN MONTHS LATER, FILED FOR
BANKRUPTCY. I’M NO BIO-ENGINEER, BUT THE APPARATUS ASSEMBLED,
WHEN COMPARED TO ITS STATED PURPOSE, SOMEHOW DOESN’T JIVE. MATERIALS WERE, IN FACT,
DELIVERED FROM THE AFOREMENTIONED CLIENTS. WHAT MR. WOLFFMÜLLER (FINK) ULTIMATELY DID WITH
THEM REMAINS TO BE DISCOVERED. CONSIDERING HIS EX-WIFE’S RETICENCE WHEN
QUESTIONED ABOUT THIS MATTER, I SUSPECT SOMETHING ILLICIT.

Report number six written and saved well ahead of time, Dad delays its emailing
to give himself a breather. This job, which should have been finished by now, not only
is gobbling up an extra few days, it is setting him a pace he finds uncomfortably
accelerated, compounded by his embarrassment at being so ineffectual.
